MuseIG

O MuseIG (Modular Universal Simulation Environment Image Generator) is a flight simulation image generator based on OpenSceneGraph. It is cross-platform, high-performance and compatible with many 3D model types, designed to be easy to use, lightweight and modular through plug-ins.

MuseIG advantages

  • Out-the-window (OTW) applications are easy to develop, with classes and methods configurable for different view types;
  • Move the camera freely or lock it with position, perspective, field of view and other settings;
  • Build scenes quickly using simple text scripts;
  • Control scene entities through identifiers, adding, removing and moving them in real time;
  • Combine plug-ins as you wish or create specific ones as needed.
Available plug-ins

Atmosphere and scene

  • SilverLining: atmospheric simulation, with day/night cycle, clouds and weather conditions;
  • SkyDome: texture-based sky, a lighter alternative to SilverLining;
  • Triton: realistic ocean and water bodies, with waves and reflections;
  • GPUVegetation: GPU-generated vegetation;
  • ShellGrass: volumetric grass rendered on the GPU;
  • OSGParticleEffects: particle effects such as smoke, fire and explosions.

Lighting and image

  • ForwardPlusLighting: a virtually unlimited number of dynamic lights in the scene;
  • SimpleLighting: simplified lighting, an alternative to ForwardPlusLighting;
  • OSGEarthSimpleLighting: lighting for scenes with osgEarth terrain;
  • LightsControl: integrates terrain light points, such as runways and cities, into the scene lighting;
  • PostProcessing: image post-processing, with automatic exposure based on scene brightness.

Terrain

  • OsgEarthCDB: loads CDB-standard terrain databases;
  • VDBOffset: handling of large terrains without rendering artifacts.

Models and entities

  • ModelComposition: combines separately controlled models into an entity and sub-entities, from XML files;
  • SimpleEntityLoader: loads entities and scenes from configuration files;
  • Animation: simple animations through callbacks;
  • FBXAnimation: FBX-standard animations;
  • Bullet: physics and collision detection between entities.

Sensors and display

  • IR: infrared sensor imagery;
  • MuseHUD: head-up display (HUD) overlaid on the image;
  • MultiChannels: multiple synchronized display channels, for systems with several screens or projectors;
  • Scalable and Mersive: geometric correction and edge blending (warping and blending) for curved screens and multi-projector setups;
  • VR and OpenXR: display on virtual reality headsets.

Integration

  • CIGI: data exchange with the simulation computer through the CIGI (Common Image Generator Interface) standard;
  • DIS: integration with distributed simulations through the DIS (Distributed Interactive Simulation) protocol;
  • Networking: network communication between the IG and the simulation computer.
